That night he strolled into the museum. In addition to all of the historical information he could cram into his mind, he also had a bag filled with props. He felt more relaxed than ever. When the museum creatures came to life tonight heâd be ready.
The three old guards walked up to him. âLarry, we just wanted to say, good luck,â said Cecil. He shook Larryâs hand.
âAnd good-bye,â Reginald added. âWeâre clocking out for the last time.â
âWhereâs your tie?â asked Gus.
Larry smiled and said, âI thought Iâd go open-collared. The tie is kind of tight. And Iâm the only one here, I mean, except forâ¦â
Gus took off his own tie and tossed it to Larry. âNoose it up, hot dog!â
âOkay, Gus,â said Larry.
âGuy thinks he can walk in here looking like heâs going to a sock hop,â Gus mumbled.
âGoodbye, Larry,â said Cecil. âIf youâre ever in Boca, look us up.â
âYouâre leaving town?â asked Larry. He was suddenly feeling worried. âI donât know if this is going to work out.â
âSmart man like you, youâll be fine,â said Reginald.
âIf youâre a night guard, you wear a tie,â said Gus. âYou donât go open-collared.â
âWill you let it go!â Cecil yelled to Gus. âCome on, Larry, walk us out.â
As they headed for the front door, Reginald fell behind. âYou fellows go on ahead. I need a moment to myself,â he said.
âHeâs emotional,â Cecil explained to Larry. âLots of memories in this room.â
After they left the room, Reginaldâs kind face hardened. Suddenly the old man seemed sinister.
He reached into Larryâs locker and grabbed his house key. Then he pressed it into a wax mold.
When he was sure he had an exact impression, he put the keys away and closed the door.
Clearly Reginald was up to no good. And poor Larry had no idea.
